Those joining intermediates need to have some previous experience & a basic tool kit which is covered in the beginners’ class. So to start with, come along at 20:30 - or anytime before to register, watch the other class, relax before the beginners start.
For the 21:30 practice, some people will leave after the beginners class, many stay to practise, ask questions, mix & mingle. Feel free to leave when you want.
Swing dancers will typically mix Lindy Hop and Charleston moves interchangeably as they dance and these are the dance styles you’ll be learning. Ideally try to start from the first class but joining partway through is not a problem. The best thing to do is to get started!
Lindy Hop is a partner dance - but because it has its origins in street dance, it is a lot less formal than many ballroom dances. Later called the ‘Jitterbug,’ Lindy Hop exploded in popularity across the U.S. in the 1930-1950’s.
Lindy Hop can be a fast or slow dance and can be danced to every kind of music, from big band tunes to hip-hop. It is high energy, a lot of fun and can be danced at all major swing events and band nights, so you’ll be shown the techniques and moves needed to do it with confidence!
Come along with smooth-soled shoes, preferably with a low heel or you can wear trainers with a smooth-sole. Clothing can be anything informal and comfortable. Why not add a vintage touch with a flower in your hair or wear some braces to get you in the mood?
Joo-Lee & her team create hugely entertaining & engaging lessons. With feet firmly on the ground they help new beginners to find their rhythm & experienced dancers to add finesse to their technique.
