New to Dancing?

Lindy Jazz dance classes are completely different from what most people would imagine!

Being able to dance at parties, weddings and band nights is one of the most useful skills you can have. The simple techniques you gain from fun and friendly classes with Lindy Jazz teachers will give you the confidence to enjoy social occasions even more.  The beginners class at 7:30 pm is ideal for brand new dancers who are keen to try something new. Two left feet? Don't worry! We start with the basics; how to stand, walk and do simple moves as well as how to look natural and stylish.  Before you know if, you're relaxed, you're confident, you're dancing!

The most common ideas people have about dance classes are:
  1. "I have two left feet"
  2. "I'll make a fool of myself"
  3. "People will look at me"
  4. "Dancing is for girls"
  5. "Everyone will be younger than me"
  6. "Lindy Hop is too energetic for me"
  7. "It's too complicated to learn"
  8. "I don't have a partner"
  9. "I have no rhythm"
  10. "I will feel embarrassed"
Why not come to Lindy Jazz? See how many of the following come true for you:
  1. You find out that you have a left and a right foot
  2. You will feel welcomed as people are nice and friendly
  3. People are not looking at you as you're not performing. It's a social dance
  4. There are beautiful girls and cool guys at all Lindy Jazz events
  5. There will be people younger and older than you
  6. If you're in good general health, you'll enjoy the dance as it's very gentle & smooth or can be energetic once you're advanced. It's gently paced in the beginners' class.
  7. You'll find it easy to learn as we teach well and explain every step clearly
  8. Come with a partner or on your own. Everyone gets to change partners
  9. You'll be shown how to listen to the music. We'll count the rhythm for you in the beginner's class
  10. You will feel energised and happy!

This video was taken one February evening at a Monday night Lindy Jazz class  at the Three Tuns Hotel, Durham.

The emphasis is on friendlinesss and having fun. There's no pressure to be perfect. Well, who is? We believe that if you enjoy learning and you're surrounded by friendly people, you will learn well and pick the moves up easily. The opposite is also true; if you think people are not nice and you're stressed out trying to be perfect, then you won't learn that well. That's no fun!

So, come and find out how much fun you can have by dropping in on Mondays or Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
