We Want You to Enjoy the Workshops

The following Level descriptions are designed to help you decide the best class or workshop. Please note that expectations of levels are different for different dance groups. The levels for weekend swing events eg DJam will  be higher.

Please attend the workshop suitable to your level. Please do not attend a class that is higher than your current level. Taster Classes and Beginners Classes are open to everyone. You do not need any previous experience to try these levels.  Tasters are designed for you to try something new.

The teachers will expect dancers at Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced levels to be very confident with their Swing Out, Lindy Circle and Charleston.

Currently we run two classes per evening at Lindy Jazz Club

LEVEL 1: Suitable for ALL LEVELS INCL BEGINNERS

Fun & friendly. Discover the essential foundations to dancing with confidence.

LEVEL 2: INTERMEDIATE - ADVANCED

Fast & furious. Take your dancing to the next level with technical tips & new moves

Are you In Between Levels?

To help you bridge from one level to the next, we will be running Footwork Practice and Technique Review sessions so that you're given support to cover the essential building blocks of Lindy Hop and Charleston. The format we're aiming for looks like this:

8:00 break
8:15 Footwork Practice for all  in the Main Hall
8:35 Technique Review in the Lindy Lounge
9:30 Social Dancing in the Main Hall

Currently we run weekend workshops catering for these levels

A - Lindy Hop Beginners
If this is the first time you're trying the Lindy Hop or you want to work on the basics, this level is for you. You'll learn the fundamental steps. Bring your enthusiasm, and we'll get you swinging in no time.

B - Lindy Hop Improver-Intermediate
You know the basics, but you're not always confident in executing them. You're ready to work on variations, styling, and connections. This class will continue to give you a good foundation to become a confident dancer.

C - Lindy Hop Intermediate-Advanced
You feel very comfortable with the Swing Out, Lindy Circle and Charleston, 6 and 8 count steps,  can dance socially with partners of various levels and you want to work on improving your lead and follow.

D - Lindy Hop Advanced
The floor, partner, and music are all your friends, and you can combine them with ease. Dancing to slow as well as very fast music doesn't scare you, and you welcome some complicated moves, as well as fine-tuning your dancing. You’re confident with Jazz Steps, aren’t afraid to try things out, and would dance socially with anyone of any standard to both slow and quick tempos.

BLUES LEVELS

There will be no auditions for Blues classes

Level 1 Blues
You are new to Blues dancing

Level 2 Blues
You have some Blues dancing experience

BALBOA LEVELS

There will be no auditions for Balboa classes

Balboa Beginners
You are new to Balboa.

Balboa Intermediate
To benefit from this class you would need to be familiar with the ‘comearound’ or break turn and also single and double time basic.  We will use the comearound in the Beginner’s Class so if anyone attends the taster and feels confident to give the intermediate a try you are welcome to do so.
