CONNECTING PEOPLE THROUGH PARTNER DANCE
Our main aim is to create a vibrant culture of social dancing in the North East, and to do this, we are developing a warm and friendly environment for people to learn Lindy Hop and its associated social dances.
Joo-Lee
At the Herrang Dance Camp several years ago there was a workshop with the legendary Dawn Hampton, a truly inspirational person and dancer. During the talk Dawn commented that if you wanted to improve your dancing then there was no better way than to dance, not just your preferred dance but all forms of dance. In many ways this has been Joo-Lee’s philosophy and experience, having danced ballet briefly as a child and since 1993, her training and social dance experience in Lindy Hop, Contemporary, Street, Salsa, Jive and Tap have influenced her personal style. Joo-Lee’s experience as a former director of performing arts, her mixture of dance styles together with her formal training in music, education and coaching have enabled her to use her understanding of musicality and communication skills in her dancing and teaching. Inspired and taught by the Jiving Lindy Hoppers since 1993, Joo-Lee has joined the process of passing along the tradition of the Lindy Hop.
Andy
Andy has been dancing since 1990, having started with an initial trial by fire in the ballroom dance world, followed by an growing passion for Modern Jive. In 1998, his increasing interest in blues dance and Lindy Hop further fueled his enthusiasm for social dance, leading him to study Lindy with top teachers such as Frankie Manning, Steven Mitchell, Peter Loggins and Russell Sargeant. Other dance influences including Salsa, Ballroom and Argentine Tango, coupled with an instinctive understanding of music and musical interpretation, have given him his trademark smooth, connected and highly musical style.
These multiple influences, in combination with his naturally warm and friendly attitude have helped him develop a highly accessible, encouraging and thorough connection-based teaching aproach.
His enthusiasm for music, his extensive and constantly growing jazz, swing, and blues collection music, and his innate musicality and dance knowledge give him an edge as the resident Lindy Jazz DJ, and in consequence his skills as a Swing and Blues DJ are sought after both nationally and internationally. His ability to choose the perfect music for the occasion serve to make every Lindy Jazz event an exciting, unforgettable experience.
Joo-Lee & Andy
Andy's infectious enthusiasm and technical abilities, together with Joo Lee's great organisation and management skills, and their visionary zeal and shared desire to create a community of dancers and social networks, have led them to found one of the Northeast's first and finest regular dance events - Lindy Jazz.
